A memoir about the struggles a young female college student faced building and operating a rustic lodge on Fox Island in Resurrection Bay, Alaska. The author, along with a carpenter and a teacher—who had staked the land on Fox Island in 1972—offered fishing and sightseeing charters for their lodge guests in what is now Kenai Fjords National Park. The three lived on Fox Island each summer during their seven-year partnership. This is the same island that inspired Rockwell Kent's classic, Wilderness (New England Press, first published in 1920).
